Families Commission Police Guests At Ethnic Cl AGM

New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils

The Families Commission, The Police and the Office of Ethnic Affairs are some of the guests that will attend the Annual General Meeting of the New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils to be held in Christchurch this weekend.

It is expected that 50 members of the Federation will attend the two day meeting to discuss issues impacting on their communities and hear what Government Departments and other agencies are doing to support migrants and refugees.

Mr Pancha Narayanan, current president says “the AGM is the highlight of the Federation calendar. We express our democracy through voting for a new executive, we hear what exciting new initiatives others are embarking on that will support ethnic communities, and we discuss our future directions. It is a very positive affair.”

The Federation will launch a draft strategic plan for members to read and feedback on. “Our plan outlines our future direction” says Mr Nararyanan “we are ambitious, but realistic. The executive looks forward to presenting this document to its members”

Other initiatives include a position paper for the election, recruitment and training strategy and an update on the Federation’s women’s project.

The AGM begins on Saturday 18th June at the Multicultural Learning Centre 210 Peterborough Street Christchurch
