Candidate For Te Tai Tonga Heading South

Destiny New Zealand Political Party Press Statement

(12 July 2005)

Destiny New Zealand Candidate For Te Tai Tonga Heading South

Destiny New Zealand Candidate for Te Tai Tonga, Maru Samuel, will be a guest speaker at the South Island leg of the Nation Under Siege tour spearheaded by Bishop Brian Tamaki. Also featuring on the tour will be Destiny New Zealand party leader, Mr Richard Lewis. The tour of the South Island follows on the heels of a public meeting in Lower Hutt, Wellington on Friday 8 July which was attended by at least 400 people.

At the Lower Hutt meeting, Maru Samuel urged voters to put aside their past political affiliations and to vote according to what a party stands for.

“My parents voted for the Labour Party because it was the best of what was available at the time. When I turned 18, I naturally did the same. But the Labour party today is very different”, he said. He also urged Maori voters to learn more about the values and policies of the three main parties canvassing for the Maori vote.

“A party’s accountability to its voters is via its written policies – not its verbal promises. Even the best seabed and foreshore policy on its own won’t solve the increasing number of issues facing our whanau”, he said. When commenting on the policies of Destiny New Zealand he said, “No other political party carries traditional family values like Destiny New Zealand”.

The South Island leg of the Nation Under Siege tour commences in Nelson on Monday 18 July, Christchurch on Tuesday night and Dunedin on Wednesday 20 July. Nation Under Siege tour venues and times for the South Island can be found at: www.bishoptamaki.org.nz
