Nelson Engineer Stands for Christian Heritage NZ
Christian Heritage NZ announced today that Nelson Consulting Engineer Mr Nick Barber would stand as a list candidate for the party. Mr Barber is a Chartered Engineer who has operated a successful consulting business in Nelson for the last 22 years. His work has included design of a wide range of civil engineering projects but with a focus on harbour-works.
Having moved to Nelson with a young family 34 years ago Nick has been actively involved in the community for many years. He served as a City Councillor in the eighties and together with his wife Rosalie led the Nelson / Marlborough branch of Marriage Ministries International for 10 years.
Nick and Rosalie are active members of St Mary's Catholic Church in Nelson, with Nick currently being Parish Council Chairperson.
CHNZ leader Ewen McQueen said he was pleased to be able to have someone on the team of such high calibre and wide experience. McQueen stated,
"Nick Barber is well known and respected within the Nelson community. He has a strong Christian faith and has demonstrated a serious commitment to the cause of Christian politics over many years. It is a privilege to have him on what will become our parliamentary team. His experience in establishing and running a successful small business will be invaluable."
Mr Barber will also be the Christian Heritage NZ candidate for the Nelson electorate where he lives. He has represented the party in this electorate in every election since 1993 and has consistently been one of the higher polling candidates for the party. In 1987 prior to the formation of CHNZ he stood for Parliament as an independent, upholding Christian values and moral issues, gaining 5.9% of the vote. Professional Background
Nick graduated from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Engineering in 1966. He was subsequently employed as a design engineer with the Lyttelton Harbour Board and then the Nelson Harbour Board.
Twenty two years ago he established his own consulting practice in Nelson and has operated a successful business since then. His projects have included a wide range of civil engineering works but with a special focus on harbour works. He has designed and supervised the construction of dredging and reclamation projects, slipways, yacht marinas, new wharves and the restoration of a number of very old wharves. Recent projects have included a modern wharf for handling 40 tonne containers, the restoration of a 120 year old historic wharf and a slipway and jetty in Fiji.
Overseas Involvement
Nick and Rosalie are active members of St Mary's Catholic Church in Nelson, with Nick currently being the chairman of the parish council. Together they led the Nelson / Marlborough branch of Marriage Ministries International for 10 years. Nick also served on the Nelson City Council in the 1980s.

Personal Background
Nick has been married to Rosalie for 42 years. They love and appreciate their eight adult children and eleven grandchildren. Nick enjoys exercising for good health and work related outings or just touring with Rosalie in their small motor-home. He has developed patents and is working towards possible commercialisation.
