Transport Solutions to Focus on Next Generation Instead of Next Election
Destiny New Zealand candidate for Pakuranga, David Jesze says Pakuranga MP Maurice Williamson and the National Party are confusing voters about the Eastern Corridor. He says voters want a long term solution to sort out Howick and Pakuranga’s transport issues.
“Having grown up in Germany, the country with one of the most advanced Autobahns [Highway] network, I have personally experienced that more roads alone are not the answer long term,” says Mr. Jesze.
“With increased fuel prices, pollution and other environmental challenges, we must start putting together an effective public transport system, which combines rail, bus and ferry. This is the only viable long-term approach to attack the chaos we face in and around Auckland, in specifically Howick and Pakuranga. While shadow transport Minister Maurice Williamson travels around the country talking about traffic issues it’s time to sort out his own patch. The Pakuranga Highway and Ti Rakau Drive are two of the biggest car parks in Auckland and travel is a nightmare every weekday,” says Mr. Jesze.
“Destiny New Zealand is in favour of more roads where absolutely necessary, but the only way our children will not have to contend with even worse traffic problems than we face today is to invest into a world class public transport system. We have to do it NOW as it should have been done years ago,” concludes Mr. Jesze.
