Security Officer’s Actions Lead to Arrest

PRESS RELEASE: Security Officer’s Actions Lead to Arrest
Friday 18 November 2005

The fast actions of a security officer resulted in the arrest of two suspects yesterday evening, the New Zealand Security Officers Association reported today.

The two suspects entered a twenty-four hour store on Gloucester Street in the city centre at approximately 6:50 PM yesterday evening. One suspect, a convicted thief known to local businesses, attempted to distract the store attendant while his accomplice selected a cask of wine and concealed it in his jacket.

A security officer who was working in the area observed the theft and immediately called the police. She then watched the two suspects make their way along Gloucester Street to the banks of the Avon River while reporting their movements to the police.

Police arrested the two suspects shortly afterwards.
