Libertarianz at Waitangi

February 2006

Libertarianz at Waitangi

"At the coming Waitangi Day celebrations the Libertarianz party will once again stand proudly opposed to all the many rich hues of Treaty separatism on offer," says Libertarianz Deregulation of Maori Affairs spokesman Tim Wikiriwhi.

"While hordes gather to demand a handout based on race, we will be advocating the scrapping of the Treaty of Waitangi and of the separatism it has come to cause. And, unlike many mainstream politicians who crawl into the marae on their knees, Libertarianz will stand on principle, apart from those who stand on vote-buying."

Answering questions as to why his party opposes the Treaty, Wikiriwhi explains: "the Treaty of Waitangi has been wrongly interpreted as a racial partnership. It is not!" asserts Wikiriwhi. "It was simply a statement of sovereignty and an introduction of property rights and a rule of law - - but these honest intentions have become besmirched: so-called 'principles of the treaty' have been disastrously inserted into legislation, creating a regime of ethnic privilege and a legal climate of bland miscomprehension.

Ultimately, it has resulted in those descended from 1840s Maori demanding cash and credit from others who aren't. It's time the whole gravy train was brought to a halt."

"Successive governments have used the treaty in whichever way the votes went," continues Wikiriwhi. "They have created a mindset of grievance, a class of treaty-scavengers and have turned non-Maori into second-class citizens, bred for guilt. It's time this was stopped."

"It's time," Wikiriwhi concludes, "that the whole Treaty nonsense was scrapped in favour of a real constitution protecting life, liberty and the pursuit of property and happiness. The time has surely come!"

Libertarianz activists will be at the Treaty grounds for the dawn ceremony, promoting racial equality and the end of Treatyism. "We are individuals with the right to control our own lives," says Wikiriwhi. "We must not be demanding that politicians divide us into racial collectives to be controlled by handouts. We must end the racial separatism."

It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
