Democrats support business lobby call for tax cuts.

Recently elected Democrat Divisional Chairman, Trevor Crosbie, today expressed support for cutting company and personal taxes, but said the business lobby proposals as reported on Newstalk ZB are short sighted, expedient and failed to address the driver behind the problem.

“Not only are they well behind the play but they are also nearly Victorian in their idea of funding the cuts by reducing expenditure on essential infrastructure” said Mr. Crosbie

Democrats have long warned about the economic impact our failing infrastructure is having on Regional economies and are disappointed the Business Round Table, NZ Chamber of Commerce and Federated Farmers want to return to the failed policies of the past of slashing and burning public good service delivery as a solution.

“There is a history of tax cuts, made on the back of cutting services, going back over decades and those pushing the current proposal need to explain to the taxpayers why it is the right solution now when it has failed to deliver in the past” continued the Democrat Chairman “The call to provide tax cuts by pushing our economy deeper into the mire of debt it is already in, smacks of lunacy”

“The simple solution of using a mechanism to provide interest free funding, for specific areas of infrastructural spending by government, would lead directly to reduced debt levels and permanently lower taxes. The only party with that policy as a cornerstone to progress is the N Z Democrats” concluded Mr. Crosbie
