TEAR Fund Addressing Urgent Needs of Displaced Families in East Timor
TEAR Fund is working in Timor Leste to address the urgent needs of families retreating from the violence in Dili and its surrounding areas.
Despite the presence of peace keepers in Timor Leste, there are ongoing clashes between rival gangs, as well as looting and frequent arson attacks. Tens of thousands of people have fled to Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps, creating the conditions for disease, including acute respiratory infection.
TEAR Fund, through its partners in the region, is providing 1,800 displaced families with relief assistance, including food, water, clothing, medicine, hygiene kits, temporary shelter and sanitation facilities. TEAR Fund will be facilitating trauma counselling, and providing safe places within IDP camps for women and children.
TEAR Fund is also working to minimise overcrowding in camps by temporarily resettling displaced people.
