Last Chance To Take Part In 2006 Maori Electoral Option

Time is almost up for Maori to take part in the 2006 Maori Electoral Option.

"The four month period to make this choice is almost over says Murray Wicks, Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager. "The Option closes on Wednesday 2 August.

"During the Option all eligible Maori can choose whether to enrol on the General Roll or the Maori Roll. There has been a lot of activity on the ground to raise awareness of the choice and how to take part," says Mr Wicks.

Actor and comedian Pio Terei has featured in the television and radio advertisements explaining the choice Maori have.

"We have the chance now to choose whether to be enrolled on the General Roll or the Maori Roll. It's really easy and I encourage Maori to find out about it if they haven't already," says Pio Terei.

"I've had a lot of feedback from people who know the Maori Electoral Option is on. But
I want to remind people to consider the roll type they want to be on for the next two Parliamentary elections," says Pio.

"If anyone hasn't made their choice yet time is running out. To make your choice you need to get your Maori Electoral Option form or enrolment form back by Wednesday August 2," says Mr Wicks.

Enrolment forms are available by freetexting your name and address to 3676, calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or by going to any PostShop. People can also enrol or update their details online at www.elections.org.nz.
