Redman Running Hamilton into Red
Redman Running Hamilton into Red
"The Hamilton City Council thinks that Hamilton's future is threatened by neighbouring developments 'freeloading' on our infrastructure," Libertarianz Mayoral Candidate Tim Wikiriwhi says. "But the real threat to Hamilton is Mayor Mike Redman and his band of bureaucrats, who are actively opposing developments in the region - like Tainui's 600ha subdivision at Ruakura - in direct violation of private property rights."
"The HCC will oppose other developments such as Tamahere simply because it doesn't fit their ten year plan. This shows how ill-conceived such a plan is. The Council is hell-bent on destroying anything that doesn't fit into their deluded little box. Meanwhile, Mayor Redman is doing a 'Cullen impression' in seeking ways to increase the rates take to fund his own private notions for the city."
Wikiriwhi explains, "Growth and development are essential for Hamilton to build an economy capable of maintaining a vibrant and modern city. The various users of Hamilton's infrastructure, both within the city and without, are not 'free -loaders' but our very lifeblood. It is insane to say Hamilton receives no benefits from such traffic!
Mr Wikiriwhi puts the blame for current problems squarely on the HCC's determination to maintain its stranglehold over private property, transportation, parking, cultural events, sports facilities. "This requires ever-increasing theft from ratepayers and an ever-increasing tyranny to contain the city with their ill-conceived bureaucracy. The council cannot tax and regulate the city to prosperity. It has never worked, it cannot work, and it is insanity to continue with this strategy!"
"In opposition to Council plans I propose the Libertarianz concept of 'The Voluntary City' which would allow private businesses to replace ratepayer funded infrastructure, and slash red tape and compliance costs for developers."
Mr Wikiriwhi has put himself forward as a Mayoral Candidate at the next election to challenge the status quo. "I have a clear view of the current troubles our city faces and offer the only logical solution: more freedom, and less local government. The current council refuses to acknowledge this solution because it would undo all their plans, political power, and kudos. My solution is to respect private property and ensure individuals come first, not bureaucracy."
"Rates should be capped at present levels and only be spent on essentials like roads and sewage. Hopefully they will be further reduced as the city council is divested of responsibilities that are the proper domain of free enterprise, not politicians."
"Deregulation of transport will encourage free enterprise to find transport solutions that don't need ratepayer subsidy. Deregulation of sport and culture will encourage free enterprise and voluntary associations to create their own self-sustaining complexes that do not require the support of ratepayers."
Mr Wikiriwhi sums up: "We need less rates, not more; a smaller council, not a bigger one. We should have more freedom, not more red tape. We need respect for private property, and diversity, not centralisation. This is the road to the future for our city, and this is what my Mayoral campaign will be founded upon."
"It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!"
