Workers want ANZ to give Feltex a chance
Feltex workers are welcoming news that there is a formal offer on the table for the beleaguered carpetmaker, and are calling for the company’s bankers to give the company a fighting chance.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that ANZ Bank’s move yesterday to freeze the company’s credit and impose a deadline of 8am today to receive details of an acceptable offer had sent fear down the spines of the company’s workers.
“Fourteen hundred working families in New Zealand and Australia are depending on the ANZ to act responsibly,” he said.
“It is widely acknowledged that Feltex is trading well and produces a good product, and we call on the ANZ Bank to take no precipitous action that would send the company into receivership.”
