Firefighters saving more than daylight on Sept 30
Firefighters saving more than daylight on September 30
September 27, 2006
Firefighters in three centres will be out and about ensuring people have potentially life-saving smoke alarms with working batteries this weekend.
Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch firefighters – with the help of battery maker Panasonic – will be distributing batteries and smoke alarms at special displays set up in Manurewa, Porirua, Riccarton and Linwood this Saturday.
The locations have been chosen because Fire Service data suggests there is higher than average incidence of fires in the surrounding areas.
The work is part of the Fire Service’s twice-annual ‘change your clock, check your smoke alarms’ campaign, run during every daylight savings clock change.
Radio and print advertisements will also urge people to take a moment over the weekend to make sure their smoke alarms are operating – or install some if they don’t already have them.
Panasonic have also committed 5 cents from the sale of every battery to provide the Fire Service with batteries for the campaign.
Where the firefighters will be: (all events take place on September 30)
Manurewa Fire Station (as part of the station’s open day), 225 Great South Road, Manurewa, between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
North City Mall, Porirua, between 10am and 1pm.
Eastgate Mall, Linwood, between 10am and midday.
Westfield Mall, Riccarton, between 10am and midday.
