Hugh Hannah to receive NZ parking award of the year

The Ministry of Transport’s Hugh Hannah has won the annual New Zealand award for parking excellence.

He will receive the award at the New Zealand Parking Association’s conference dinner in Invercargill on Thursday night.

Hannah has given lengthy service to the parking industry and the award recognises excellence in contribution to the New Zealand parking industry and creates role models for NZ Parking Association members.

``Hannah is a friend and an advisor and has been an advocate on behalf of the association,’’ NZ Parking Association chairman Colin Waite said today.

``He has ensured that legislative changes including towage fees, abandoned vehicle charges and more recently bus lane enforcement, were acted upon in the appropriate manner. He also considered what other impact change will have on industry members.’’

Hannah has been influential in policy decision making relating to safety, congestion and expenditure and a strong advocate for its direction, by stimulating discussion and action.

A senior policy analyst, he always considers the practical implications of policies created and is aware of the impact they will have on those who need to apply them. These are intuitive qualities and necessary when looking at the wider picture, Waite said.

``It is in recognition of these many attributes and Hugh’s contribution and partnership with the New Zealand parking Association that the Excellence Award will be presented to Hugh.’’

Wanganui’s Barry Cornfoot was the recipient last year.
