World Vision Volunteers Praised.

World Vision has just done an audit of their volunteers nationwide 841 volunteers work for the aid and development agency on a regular basis, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in wages every year. 228 of these are in the Wellington region.

"We literally couldn't achieve the work we do without these fantastic people," says World Vision's Volunteer Coordinator, Alison Ross. "They're all busy with their own work and families, but they make time to work for the poor as well, and we're very grateful to them."

So grateful, in fact that World Vision wants to say "Thank you" to these valuable people with a series of Volunteers Conferences throughout the country, with a Conference in Waikanae on Saturday November 11at Waikanae Christian Holiday Park, Kauri Road, Waikanae.

Award-winning Ugandan journalist Geoffrey Kalebbo will speak on his experiences over 12 years working in some of the poorest places in Africa, and former CEO and well-known educationalist, Colin Prentice will speak on his experiences in post-conflict situations such as Rwanda and Kosovo.

Alison Ross says the one-day conferences will also be of interest to anyone who is interested in finding out more about World Vision, the largest aid and development organisation in New Zealand.

"It's going to be a packed day, full of motivational speakers, some personality-type training sessions, great food and music, and a 'Thank you dinner' at night," she says.

The Volunteers Conference runs from 9am to 8.30pm on Saturday November 11.
