Industrial action cuts TVNZ live crosses

Further industrial action at TVNZ has resulted in the loss or delay of three live crosses after members from the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and the Public Service Association walked out at 5:40pm today and stayed out for just under an hour.

The walkout is the latest industrial action at TVNZ after members met this afternoon and voted overwhelmingly to continue and escalate their response to the Crown Owned Company’s position.

EPMU National Secretary Andrew Little says he is amazed by TVNZ’s failure to address an obviously dissatisfied staff.

“This action has been happening for over a week now, union membership is increasing and action is intensifying – I’m astounded that TVNZ is failing to read the writing on the wall and come up with a decent offer.”

PSA Organiser Brenden Sheehan agrees.

“The company needs to wake up and realise that members are extremely unhappy about how the company is handling this situation and that dissatisfaction is spreading throughout their workforce.”

The feeds affected were from the waterfront, Flemington and the US, and management and strike-breakers spent the duration of the strike desperately attempting to cover the losses.

EPMU Organiser Rachel Mackintosh says she’s disappointed by the company.

“TVNZ is a publicly owned broadcaster that claims to represent New Zealander’s values but I don’t think that this kind of behaviour fits with that claim at all.”

The EPMU and the PSA cover more than 300 TVNZ workers between them.
