TVNZ steals Christmas

TVNZ steals Christmas

Union members at TVNZ have taken more lightning strike action today as the Crown Owned Company continues to refuse staff a decent payrise.

The action began at 2.20pm and will continue until midnight tonight. It is expected the 6pm news will be affected.

EPMU Organiser Rachel Mackintosh says it’s time TVNZ made a decent pay offer and fixed issues relating to service leave.

“TVNZ has been displaying grinch-like behaviour. As well as refusing to offer its workers a decent pay rise so they can keep up with the cost of living, the company has now gone and cancelled the office Christmas party. This miserly behaviour is just symbolic of the company’s attitude throughout this whole dispute.”

PSA Organiser Brenden Sheehan says TVNZ needs to get its priorities straight. “TVNZ CEO Rick Ellis has been talking a lot lately about rebuilding trust in the TVNZ brand. Perhaps it’s time they started realising their brand is connected with their behaviour and most New Zealanders don’t appreciate the way they are behaving towards their staff.”

Today’s lightning strike is the fourteenth time TVNZ staff have taken action since the dispute began nearly three weeks ago.
