Media Release

Revised Energy Greenhouse Gas 1990-2005 report released

The Ministry of Economic Development today released the Revised Energy Greenhouse Gas 1990-2005 report. This report includes information on New Zealand’s energy-related (including transport) greenhouse gas emissions for the calendar years 1990 to 2005.

The revised edition amends the 2005 carbon dioxide (CO2) emission figure for thermal electricity generation, which was incorrectly reported in the original report released in September of this year.

The revised CO2 emission figure for thermal electricity generation in 2005 is 8.2 million tonnes, which replaces the previously reported figure of 7.1 million tonnes.

The amendment affects the 2005 calendar year figures only, was confined to this publication, and has no implications on the projections made of Net Position or on those reported in the New Zealand Energy Outlook to 2030 or the New Zealand Energy Data File.

The Revised Energy Greenhouse Gas report 1990-2005 is available on-line at the Ministry of Economic Development website www.med.govt.nz.
