C I Munro workers will be looked after says Union

The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union is working closely with Otorahanga manufacturer C I Munro to make sure its workers are not adversely affected when operations are moved to Hamilton.

The caravan and motor-home company has announced it will be moving to Hamilton over the next year in order to grow its production base.

EPMU Organiser Peter Cooper-Davies says that although union members are faced with extra travel the company has been working well with the union to make sure any effects on workers will be minimised.

“C I Munro management are aware of how this move will impact on their workers. The union and the company are currently looking at putting a package together that will compensate workers for the disturbance the shift will cause them and make sure the transition goes smoothly.

“The company is being run well that’s why it’s expanding and why it recognises the importance of looking after its employees.”

EPMU National Secretary Andrew Little says while the shift will have some impact on Otorahunga he’s pleased to see a Kiwi manufacturer successfully competing against overseas competition.

“This move will double C I Munro’s capacity and a big part of that is due to its loyal and skilled staff, we’re expecting the company to recognise this and make sure its workers are kept happy.”

The shift will begin next month and is likely to be finished by the end of this year.
