Petition Supports Law Change on Organ Donation

Organ donor campaigner Andy Tookey, Director of GiveLife NZ and five year old daughter Katie will be presenting a petition in support of National MP Dr.Jackie Blue's Private Members Bill calling for a legally binding organ donor register and public awareness campaign.

The sixteen hundred signature petition will be presented to Dr.Jackie Blue and MP's representing other parties on the steps of Parliament at 3.45pm on Tuesday 20 February.

Katie Tookey was diagnosed with a liver disease that would require a transplant for her survival. Her father, Andy was concerned at the low level of organ donations in New Zealand and formed the lobby group GiveLife NZ.

Dr. Blue's Private Members Bill will be considered alongside the Government's Human Tissue Bill by the Health Select Committee. The Committee starts hearing oral submissions on Wednesday 21 February.
