Luck Of The Irish Still Alive And Well This St Patrick's Day For Instant Kiwi Winner
Just in time for St Patrick's Day, a lucky Blenheim woman has caught her very own lucky Leprechaun and netted herself a $25,000 'pot of gold', says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
The mother of two, who wishes to remain anonymous, revealed she is of Irish descent and purchased her winning $2 Lucky Leprechaun Instant Kiwi ticket because of her Irish connections.
"It's actually my brother's birthday on St Patrick's Day too, so I thought it might be quite lucky to buy a ticket…and it turned out it was," she said.
On realising she had won the tickets' top prize the woman immediately took it into Countdown Blenheim to have it checked, for fear of experiencing some true 'Irish luck'.
"I didn't want to carry it around with me and I got quite nervous that I was going to lose it," she says.
The winner has told her brother of her St Patrick's inspired windfall and says she may have to give him an extra special birthday gift this year.
"Other than that I'm leaving it in the bank for a while and hoping it will grow," she says.
The winning Lucky Leprechaun ticket was purchased at Redwoods Lotto in Blenheim.
