Will transport crash causes ever be sought?

Will transport crash causes ever be sought?

The most incredible excuse to be given and apparently swallowed by investigators -after yet another inexplicable reckless truck crash - was 'the Fonterra lolly' which has still not been found and bagged by crash investigators. "This is no laughing matter, someone was nearly killed in their lounge room", say Candor Trust.

With 2 serious truck accidents today, one narrowly missing passenger train involvement and the other fatally injuring a motorist in Waikato this morning (circumstances unknown) Candor Trust again renew calls for drug testing of vocational drivers involved in crashes.

Condolences are extended to the bereaved family and the Trust are hopeful they will not join the legion families denied access to justice via a proper crash investigation, pursuant to Transport industry protectionism.

"We've gathered records of several cases to go before Coroners Courts now, in which the victims families believe the culprits were drunk or drugged, yet culprits vocational class license has shielded them from Police testing and investigations".

Worksites like the Waikato prison construction site have allegedly been riddled with drugged machinary drivers. Workers in Industries like mining report to Candor that despite frequent requests to tidy up the drug problem New Zealand Mines are fearful places because we are so far behind with creating a safety culture via fitness testing of workers.

Candor members from the West Coast have reported that a likely cause of the Kiwi Experience bus crash could be marijuana intoxication, though this was not tested for. This must be regarded as a major sin of omission.

"Dealers on the Coast say their best customers are those backpacker tours, and it seems likely that if drivers are facilitating local drug tourism as it is reported they are, that they may also themselves indulge on occasion".

Candor Trust is hopeful though not optimistic that Police will think about testing the Kiwi Experience drivers blood for cannabis while it is still fresh. And also wishes to remind Police that they would do well to both alcohol and drug test the two truckys involved in todays high risk crashes.

To do less than a full and duly diligent investigation is to do the Public a disservice, is only "pretend policing", and does not enable any of these drivers to clear any suspicion around their fitness to be on the road.
