CRMS: Don Brash new Chairman of the Board

25th May 2007

Centre Announces New Board of Trustees

Don Brash new Chairman of the Board.

The Centre for Resource Management Studies is pleased to announce its new and enlarged Board of Trustees.

Alan Gibbs, the founding Chairman, is now spending almost all of his time overseas promoting his new amphibious vehicle technology, and felt it was time for someone spending more time in New Zealand to take over the Chairman's role.

The Centre is pleased to announce the new Trustees, as follows:

Don Brash – Chairman, Trustee.

Noel Lane – Deputy Chairman, Trustee. (Incumbent)

Sir Roger Douglas – Trustee

Alan Gibbs – Trustee.

Dick Quax – Trustee.

Owen McShane – Trustee, Director of the Centre.

Don Brash, as an economist and former Governor of the Reserve Bank, is well aware of the connection between land use regulations, economic activity and monetary policy. He initiated Owen McShane's return to such matters when he commissioned him to write the report "The Impact of the RMA on the Housing and Construction Component of the Consumer Price Index" in 1996. He recently joined the Board of the ANZ National Bank.

Noel Lane is one of Auckland's leading architects with a keen interest in the regulation of land use and construction and known to many Aucklanders as the architect of the recent extensions to the Auckland Museum.

Sir Roger Douglas is well known to all New Zealanders as a leading policy analyst and is highly regarded by policy "think tanks" and agencies round the world. He and Owen McShane are both on the Advisory Panel to the Frontier Institute of Public Policy in Canada.

Dick Quax is no doubt best remembered by most New Zealanders for his great achievements in middle distance running including a world record for the 5,000 metres in 1977. He is now a senior Manukau City Councillor (Botany ward), with a keen interest in local government, and continues to be involved in the Management and Promotion of Athletics.

We are confident this new board of Trustees will work well with the Centre to truly "make a difference" to Resource Management in New Zealand. There is much to do.
