AA congratulates Gull Petroleum

Media Release: 1 August 2007

AA congratulates Gull Petroleum for introducing New Zealand’s first biofuel

The AA congratulates Gull Petroleum for introducing New Zealand’s first biofuel, but cautions motorists to check whether their vehicle is compatible with Gull Force 10 prior to using the fuel.

From 1 August 2007 Gull service stations in Auckland will be selling Gull Force 10, a 98-octane fuel with a ten per cent ethanol blend.

Mike Noon, the AA’s General Manager for Motoring Affairs, says “the arrival of Gull Force 10 in the New Zealand market offers motorists the option of choosing a more environmentally friendly fuel for their vehicles."

“However, it is important that motorists only use Gull Force 10 if it is compatible with their vehicles. The AA has requested from car manufacturers a list of all vehicles that can use Gull Force 10. This information will be made available on the AA’s website www.aa.co.nz as soon as it is received.”

“Putting Gull Force 10 into your car when it isn’t designed to use a 10 per cent ethanol fuel, could lead to a number of problems including fuel leaks and fuel line deterioration, and possibly invalidate your vehicle’s mechanical warranty.”

“Ethanol blended fuel should never be used for marine and aviation purposes, and people should contact manufacturers prior to using ethanol-blended fuel for small machinery such as motor mowers, chainsaws and generators.”

“If you don’t know whether your vehicle can use Gull Force 10, then the AA recommends contacting the vehicle’s manufacturer prior to filling up,” says Mr Noon.
