jobs.govt.nz gets a facelift
14 August 2007
The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, today launched a new, more user-friendly version of the popular government employment website - jobs.govt.nz
jobs.govt.nz is a flagship site in the State sector. It is one of the most popular and well established sites of its kind and is the primary channel for applications for State sector careers.
Mark Prebble said the upgrade of jobs.govt.nz is an important part of the State Services Development Goals Programme, in particular the goal to be the employer of choice for New Zealanders.
“Work in the State sector is interesting and the breadth of roles on offer is enormous. We expect the best people to do these jobs so that the public and the State receive the best level of service possible.
“To attract the best people and retain them we need the right recruitment tools – that’s where jobs.govt.nz plays such an important role.
“When jobs.govt.nz went live ten years ago it was the only government website that provided for multiple government agencies to place their own material onto the same internet site.
“The attraction of this new one-stop-shop job site was that it was free to advertise your jobs on it and you didn’t need to be a technical wizard to do this. Content could be uploaded by non-web-technical people. In fact back in 1997, for many Human Resources advisors uploading their advertisements it was their first direct experience of the internet.
“We’ve come a long way in ten years. On this day in August 1997 - there were just 36 vacancies in total being advertised on the site. Today that’s about the number of new jobs being uploaded every day to the site – the total number of positions being advertised on jobs.govt.nz right now sits at around 450 vacancies.
“In the past decade the site has published more than 37,500 jobs. Our goal now – alongside attracting great talent to the State sector - is for all State sector managers to use the site as their primary recruitment tool and there is a compelling case for them to get on board.
“Over the last twelve months there were 7550 vacancies advertised on jobs.govt.nz and, since the revamped site went live in late July, there have been nearly 90,000 visitors.
“When you consider that most other online recruitment advertising job sites charge a fee for placing ads, this free online option is an obvious choice for State Services agencies.
“The new jobs.govt.nz now has a modern and fresh design, intended to appeal to a wide audience and has much greater functionality for both jobseekers and advertisers,” Mark Prebble said.
