The development of a uniquely New Zealand authentication solution saw the State Services Commission’s Authentication Programme collect one of the global 2007 IDDY (Identity Deployment of the Year) Awards.
The solution provides for authoritative sources of data held across government being made available to people and businesses in their online interactions with agencies, Hugh McPhail, Acting Branch Manager Information and Communication Technologies, announced today.
The winning concept allows New Zealand citizens and organizations accessing government services on the Internet the convenience of being able to request and control the sending of authoritative information rather than obtaining and submitting paper documents.
It also means quicker and more consistent government services and entitlement decisions and reduced compliance costs for businesses.
Developed by the State Services Commission, with input from across government and international experts, the solution brings virtual, online joined-up government services a step closer. It is driven by principles of privacy, security and user-control.
“With the Internet becoming a mainstream channel for interacting, transacting, and participating, online authentication has become a prerequisite for effective and efficient government worldwide.
“In 2007, New Zealanders increasingly expect government services to be customized to their needs and accessible in a way that is convenient to them.
“It is very satisfying to see the work of the All-of-government Authentication Programme being recognised internationally,” Hugh McPhail said.
Liberty Alliance is a global identity consortium working to build a more trusted internet for consumers, governments and businesses worldwide. Four IDDYs recognising digital identity management applications were announced at DIDW 2007 (Digital ID World).
