Burmese Junta Censor Private Media
The Middle Line Journal has been suspended by the Burmese junta, according to sources in Rangoon.
On November 7, the Burmese board of censors warned journals and magazines against placing news articles and photographs without permission of the board, said sources.
Burma is well-known as a police state. There is no freedom of expression in the country and the press is tightly controlled by the military government. The heads of the board of censors have all been military officers since 1988. All private media are required to produce samples of their publication to the board of censors before going to press.
