A Challenge To Labour – “Be Fair”

Paul Adams, deputy leader of The Family Party, is calling on his former parliamentary colleagues to amend the Electoral Finance Bill to remove the January 1 commencement date for the 2008 Election period and return to the original 3-month election period.

“Public opinion is certainly up in arms about the Electoral Finance Bill, which severely disadvantages unelected contenders, such as The Family Party, by controlling our ability to effectively participate in New Zealand’s democratic process of election. As Labour and their support partners appear determined to force this legislation upon New Zealanders and head us further down the road to a “Nanny State, my challenge at this late stage is to as a least ‘be fair,’ and remove the ‘1st January’ commencement date and remain with the traditional 3-month election period,” says Mr Adams.

Mr Adams says the public have been demanding more accountability from Government and Members of Parliament for some time, yet MP’s continue to despise public opinion and do what they like. “They certainly are a law unto themselves and appear to be desperate to hang on to power at all costs.”

“The Family Party is equally determined to give power back to families, something that this government has done a great job of destroying. All we ask is a fair and level playing field in the next election. The Family Party staunchly opposes this bill,” he added.

The Family Party is challenging Labour in South Auckland for the seats of Mangere and Manukau, and will be opening an office in the Mangere town centre in early December. The party website www.thefamilyparty.org.nz will also go live on or about the 1st of December.
