Receiving Stolen Goods
SOLO-NZ Press Release:
Receiving Stolen
Goods
December 13, 2007
Winston Peters has "donated" $158,000 of illegally spent money to Starship Hospital. This money should have been returned to the taxpayer, says SOLO-NZ spokeswoman Sandra Ashworth.
"SOLO-NZ condemns this cynical move by a politician who is more interested in appearing to be charitable with OUR money than doing the right thing. He is using sick kids as political pawns, which is beneath contempt," Ashworth says.
"All the parties have paid back illegal election money to Parliamentary Services, except for NZ First. Mr Peters states he does not want to see it lost into the coffers of the Wellington bureaucracy.
"If Mr Peters has zero trust in the bureaucracy, what on earth has he done in the last 2.5 years as a minister, and why is he supporting the government that is in charge of a bureaucracy that he has zero faith in? Or is he interested only in the baubles of power?
"Would Winston argue that it would be valid for thieves to rob a bank of $158,000 and then give it to a charity of THEIR choosing? And it is OK because they consider that it isn't really illegal to rob the bank in the first place?
"National's piss-weak apology for a leader, John Key, ignores the seriousness of this theft, sitting upon the fence and 'leaving to the public to judge.' The public will judge. They don't like eunuchs, any more than they like thieves."
