Political Party Denial

4th January 2008 p.705

MEDIA RELEASE
Political Party Denial

It has come to our notice that some people claiming to be members of Grey Power have been ringing one of the talk back shows advising that Grey Power is to become a political party.

There is absolutely no truth in this assertion, this would only be possible if there was a rule change at the AGM . The current rule states that Grey Power be non aligned with any political party and to also present a strong united lobby to all Parliament and Statutory Bodies on matters affecting all elderly New Zealanders.

I am confident that the majority of the board would not support or recommend such an action as we would then be considered an opponent and threat to other parties , this would also mean we would lose our strength and credibility as a forceful lobbying group to Parliament.

We would be grateful if you could advise us of any details of approaches made to your associations.

Graham Stairmand
President.
