Customs seize around $1 million of Crystal Meth

New Zealand Customs Service officers have seized approximately one kilo of Ice (crystal methamphetamine) at Auckland airport.

The haul, with an estimated street value of around $1 million, is significant in that recently most drug seizures have been of precursors (components of the final product) rather than the finished drug product ready for sale or use, says Customs Manager Investigations Bill Perry.

The drugs were found on a male and a female arriving on a flight from Hong Kong.
Two people have been charged with importation of class A drugs and possession for supply. The matter is now before the courts.

”International crime syndicates are active, aggressive and incredibly inventive in finding new ways to conceal their illegal trade," Mr Perry said.

“Seizures like this one show just how important it is that we remain vigilant.”
No further information is available at this stage as the matter is now before the courts.
