Venezuelan Charge d’Affairs to speak publicly in Christchurch
Venezuela’s Charge d’Affairs Nelson Davila, a close ally of President Hugo Chávez, will give two public speeches in Christchurch on March 16 and 17.
He will be discussing the formation of the five-million strong ‘Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela’ (PSUV) or United Socialist Party of Venezuela, and the growth of Venezuelan communal councils – community-elected councils that oversee public projects.
A close collaborator of President Chávez for over two decades, Mr Davila was recently involved in forming the PSUV - a party that promotes the unification of Latin America and aims to unite sympathisers of the Bolivarian revolution.
Organisers of the event describe Mr Davila as “not your ordinary diplomat, coming from a revolutionary background,” and stress the importance of his visit for anybody interested in the political climate of Latin America.
The relationship between the United States of America and Venezuela will also be on Mr Davila’s agenda.
