Bad law getting worse, says Kiwi Party Leader
Bad law getting worse, says Kiwi Party Leader &
Petitioner Organiser.
The case of the 30 year-old Glen Innes man accused of assault was “further evidence of the mistake 113 MP’s made last June”, said Kiwi Party Leader and Referendum Repeal Petition organiser Larry Baldock.
“The Police cannot be relied upon to do our lawmakers job for them. Discretion in the hands of anyone will sooner or later result in subjective decisions that result in an innocent person being wrongly accused and a family seriously affected".
“It is the responsibility of our MP’s to pass clear laws that the police can enforce”.
“When discretion is needed it is best left in the hands of a jury of peers”.
“That was the way it was under Section 59 of the 1961 Crimes Act, and since Sue Bradford has now repeatedly acknowledged that her Bill was not meant to deal with child abuse, we wonder why any changes were made”.
The law should be repealed now.
