PRESS STATEMENT FOR RELEASE

Family Party commends South Auck drug bust

27 May 08. Family Party leader Richard Lewis has commended the excellent work of the South Auckland police for another successful drug bust that has led to 40 arrests. Police say suspects are connected to the Otahuhu chapter of Black Power New Zealand.

“This is a fantastic result for our communities because drug dealing is the soft underbelly of South Auckland gangs. The audacity to be drug dealing in broad daylight demonstrates how rife this kind of activity is in a public place where kids innocently pass by,” says Mr Lewis.

Operation Star is a follow up to Operation Leo, which targeted members of the Killer Bees and Tribesman gangs in Otara and Papatoetoe earlier this month. Operation Leo resulted in more than $500,000 worth of methamphetamine, $200,000 in cash, firearms and stolen property being seized and led to the arrests of more than 20 people.

The Family Party recently announced Law & Order policies to combat drug dealing and organised crime in the community.

Richard Lewis will be standing in the Manukau East electorate at the coming election.
