Our Communities' Progress: Measuring
it
Presented by Marilyn Waring
We work hard to 'get ahead in life' but do we really understand what 'getting ahead' really means? Marilyn Waring, Professor of Public Policy at the Institute of Public Policy, AUT University in Auckland, is an internationally renowned authority on Genuine Progress Indicators, a way of measuring what 'getting ahead' really means in a community.
Marilyn Waring is a Board Member of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the Association of Women's Rights in Development (AWID), the Development Board of AUT University's Economic Development Centre and former member of the Creative New Zealand and Massey University Councils.
She has held visiting fellowships at the Institute of Politics, Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, Rutgers University (New Jersey, U.S.A.), Queens University (Canada) and the Hawke Institute (Australia).
She is the author of Counting for Nothing: What Men Value and What Women Are Worth; Three Masquerades: Essays on Equality, Work and Human Rights; The Lifetime of a Goat: Writings 1984-2000; and editor of Managing Mayhem: Work-Life Balance in New Zealand.
