Key Visits Tauranga Youth Programme
John
Key, Leader of the Opposition, visited Relationship Services
in Tauranga today to learn more about an innovative youth
programme being run.
“We are very pleased to have the Leader of the Opposition, John Key, visiting to learn more about the Positive Pathways programme which Relationship Services has developed in the Tauranga over the past two years,” said Jeff Sanders, Chief Executive of Relationship Services.
The programme is aimed at supporting young adolescent boys and their families to address aggressive behaviour. It is a three-month intensive programme. “By working with these young men and their families, we have achieved some excellent results, both short-term and long-term,” said Mr Sanders
The programme is deliberately aimed at 12-14 year olds. By addressing problems early, programme leaders hope to change behaviour before these young men move out of home, and later enter relationships.
“Relationship Services is committed to providing effective support to families and individuals, young and old, because we know that good relationships are the basis of happy, fulfilling lives,” Mr Sanders said.
