Candor
Trust
In the context of discussing the merits of a 0.05 alcohol limit for drivers within a Press Release Candor Trust made the following statement; "Dr Sam Charlton at Waikato University....(has) spoken out against a reduced blood alcohol limit for New Zealand". The Trust is advised this statement was quite incorrect.
The statement made by Candor could have been misconstrued to mean that Dr Charlton (Psychologist) does not support a zero blood alcohol limit, which he is on the Public record supporting, and which Candor Trust also supports. There was no intent to imply this, in context.
It could also convey Dr Charlton does not support a 0.05 limit for adults, which is what Candor Trust had believed was the case at the time. We are now led to understand any reduction, rather than solely a drop to a zero alcohol limit (aviation standard) for drivers, is and was then supported by Sam Charlton.
The error regarding Dr Charlton's viewpoint resulted from (mis)interpretation of a somewhat unclear secondary media source, which might have recommended by it's ambiguity, and oddly emphatic headline, further fact checking. Staff of the Trust wish to apologise to Dr Charlton for any upset or bother caused by inaccuracy within the earlier Media release.
