Dairy Union third party registration welcomed

Media Release, NZ Dairy Workers Union Te Runanga Wai U. Wednesday July 30 2008.

Dairy Workers Union third party registration welcomed

The Dairy Workers Union has welcomed its registration by the Electoral Commission as a third party and says it is getting on with the job of letting workers know what’s at stake this election.

“This decision upholds the right of our members to be involved in the general election,” Dairy Workers Union National Secretary James Ritchie said.

“Workers have an important voice in the democratic process. There is a lot at stake this election and our members have been highlighting the issues that matter to them in worksite meetings and at our recent Congress.”

“Our union is an affiliate of the Labour Party but we have an independent voice and our campaign will reflect the perspectives of our members across a range of policy issues.”

“Unions give voice to the issues of workers during elections and this year is no different. Like many groups we have registered as a third party to make sure we adhere to the new rules on election campaigning.”
