ORANGE RIBBON Campaign Launch and Candle light Vigil for Tibet

As part of the International Tibet Support Network, Friends of Tibet (NZ) and the Tibetan community will launch the ORANGE RIBBON Campaign 8th August 2008, which is the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympics. This is to remind China that we have not forgotten the illegal occupation of Tibet while China enjoys world attention.

“Light Candle4tibet and wearing of Orange Ribbon on Friday and during the term of the Olympics are reminders that, all is not as harmonious as China is promoting, and that the people of Tibet will not be forgotten “ said Thuten Kesang, the Chairman of Friends of Tibet (NZ).

In Auckland, Launch of Orange Ribbon Campaign and the candlelight vigil for Tibet will be held at Aotea Square from 5.30pm-6.30pm on Friday 8th August 2008

Wellington Branch will launch their Orange Ribbon Campaign at midday
on Friday at Midland Park. They will hand out orange ribbons and fly orange balloons.

Christchurch Branch Launch of Orange Ribbon Campaign and the candlelight vigil for Tibet will be held at Cathedral Square from 5.30 pm-6.30 pm on 8th August.

New Brighton In New Brighton at the Sand Dance Cafe we will provide candles and a public area to display. Anybody who wishes to take part in lighting a candle on behalf of freedom for the Tibetan people. As well, famous sand sculptor, Peter Donnelly-The Sand Dancer, will be creating an enormous sand art tribute to the candle4tibet light protest.
