Manawatu Horowhenua Hit By Two More Textile Closures
Two more clothing firms are to close in the central districts with around 40 workers losing their jobs,” said Robert Reid, President of the National Distribution Union.
“The firms are the Palmerston North based Everest Fashions which has gone into liquidation and the LWR owned Beardsley Pearce in Levin.
“Workers at Everest were advised of their closure on Friday 15 August and those at Beardsley Pearce learned of their fate earlier today, Monday 18 August.
“These closures follow hard on the heels of the closures of the Godfrey Hirst owned Feltex plants in Foxton and Feilding which saw around 160 lose their jobs. In addition the Godfrey Hirst Dannevirke mill has recently laid off 12 workers and Rembrandt Suits in Naenae has laid off around 20 staff members,” Robert Reid said.
The National Distribution Union represents workers at all of these clothing and textile factories.
