Maxim Institute To Host Major Political Debate Tonight In Auckland
Maxim Institute is hosting the final three of its NZ Votes political debates this week. The series of events throughout the country have been a tremendous success with people turning out to hear from the party candidates themselves. Each debate helps voters to better understand the electoral system and provides an opportunity for people to question the candidates and for the candidates to question each other.
Tonight's event will be held at 7.30pm, at
Greenlane Christian Centre, 17 Marewa Road, Greenlane,
Auckland, with a number of high profile MPs taking
part:
ACT: Rodney Hide Green: Keith Locke Labour: Hon Phil Goff National: Dr Richard Worth OBE NZ First: Pita Paraone MNZM United Future: Denise Krum
Last election's Auckland debate was a well attended event and proved a lively evening with Keith Locke making his infamous pledge to work down Broadway naked if Rodney Hide won Epsom (which he subsequently honoured).
Those attending the debates around the country have been asking questions on a wide range of topics. Some of the issues people have been focusing on include: law and order, the Emissions Trading Scheme, taxes, KiwiSaver and the current economic crisis.
The NZ Votes 2008 series of political debates, hosted by Maxim Institute, will complete its series with final debates in central Auckland and Wellington tonight and Tauranga tomorrow evening. More information can be found at www.nzvotes.org.
