UNESCO Launches First Online Annual Report

For the first time in its 61-year history, members of the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO have decided against printing numerous copies of their annual report. Instead, the organisation published this year's document online. The report will be presented in the easy-to-read E-Book format, as well as in a downloadable PDF mode.

"This is a small but important step in the way UNESCO continues to place sustainable development at the heart of our activities," says Dr Bryan Gould, New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO chairman.

"As well as reducing our consumption of natural resources, we hope it provides a model for our stakeholders, partners and friends to follow."

This policy change will save at least ten trees; stop the release of pulp and paper pollutants into the environment; and also save on the amount of fossil fuels and water that is typically used in the printing and transport of the annual reports. It will also cost the organisation less than the traditional printed publication. If stakeholders specifically request a hard copy, it will be produced using environmentally friendly materials.
