Family Planning Organisations – Promote Culture of Death
Right to Life deplores President Barack Obama’s signing of an executive order rescinding the Mexico City Policy that prohibited Federal funding of overseas organisations that promote the killing of unborn children. President Obama is the most pro – abortion President in the history of the United States. The order allows government funding of the United Nations Population Fund [UNFPA] and the International Planned Parenthood Federation, [IPPF].
Right to Life challenges the outrageous claim of the New Zealand Family Planning Association, [NZFPA] made in its press release of 27 January. The Association claims that “the ending of this policy will help save the lives of millions of women…” We challenge the Association to provide the evidence to support this claim. The funding will in fact result in the killing of millions of defenceless and innocent unborn children. It will also result in many women suffering as a result of their abortion a lifetime of regret and physical and psychological damage.
The Mexico City Policy was
introduced following an investigation in 2002 by the United
States, State Department into UNFPA”s involvement in
supporting and implementing China’s notorious one child
family planning policy with its appalling abuse of human
rights. This policy entails forced abortions, sterilisations
and severe punitive penalties.
Secretary of State Colin
Powell reported in 2002 that the investigation provided
conclusive proof that UNFPA is complicit in supporting
China’s one child family policy.
The NZFPA is a loyal affiliate of the IPPF. It is the major abortion referral agency in New Zealand and supports the decriminalisation of abortion and the withdrawal of legal protection for the human rights of unborn children. Both UNFPA and the IPPF continue to support China’s one child family policy with its human rights abuses. In 1983 the IPPF welcomed the Chinese Family Planning Association into full membership saying that the goals of the Chinese Association were entirely consistent with its own.
It is disappointing that the New Zealand government continues to provide funding to the UNFPA and the IPPF. It also funds the NZFPA. Right to Life requests that this funding and that of the UNFPA and the IPPF for the worldwide promotion of abortion and a culture of death cease.
