Libz Toasting EFA's Roasting
Libertarianz leader Richard McGrath today paid tribute to those who protested long and hard against what he called "a tyrannical attempt by Helen Clark to become Prime-Minister-for-life."
Rejoicing in the abolition of the Electoral Finance Act, Dr McGrath singled out important players in the backlash against a law which "even Phil Goff admits was wrong."
"Bernard Darnton and his legal team, David Farrar, John Boscowan, Peter Cresswell and the NZ Herald played a huge role in keeping this issue bubbling before the public," he added. "Thanks to them, New Zealand has avoided the one-party state that Helen Clark so badly wanted to fashion in the style of her mentor, Hugo Chavez."
Dr McGrath said his party will remain vigilant, as he is concerned the National-led Government will try to replace the EFA with something more insidious. "As Samuel Adams said over two hundred years ago - and as a small group of dedicated dissenters have just shown, and John Key would be foolish to forget - it doesn't take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in people's minds."
