Rosebank Home and Hospital Members Picket Employer

Media Release

Rosebank Home and Hospital Members Picket Employer

New Zealand Nurse Organisation (NZNO) members at Rosebank residential aged care facility in Ashburton and supporters will be picketing the offices of the facility owner, Stuart Leck, on the Corner of Colombo and Armagh Streets outside the Forsyth Barr Building in Christchurch on Monday 23rd February from 12 noon to 1.00pm.

NZNO Organiser, Steve Howard is outraged at the employer’s behaviour.

“Stuart Leck has offered workers a zero pay increase in the negotiations for the collective agreement. This would mean that these already very low paid workers would not have a pay rise for two years,” Howard said.

“Our members have been told that they can have a pay increase if they agree to staffing cuts. Members know that when staffing is reduced the care that can be delivered to the elderly is impacted upon so have refused this as a tenable option. Union members cannot believe that their employer will not increase their pay but that he will invest millions in a office tower in central Christchurch – our members aren’t even worth the same as bricks and mortar,” said Howard.

Stuart Leck owns Rosebank Residential Home Limited through Lexson Investment Limited of which Leck appears to be the sole share holder. Rosebank is an aged care facility in Ashburton.
