Win a Toyota Prius by signing up to Earth Hour online

Committing to WWF’s Earth Hour™ could win one lucky online participant a new Toyota Prius™.

The car, painted Earth Hour black and valued at NZ$46,490 (RRP), will be won in a random draw from those who enter the competition at www.earthhour.org/newzealand.

By entering, participants will also be signed up to Earth Hour.

The competition commenced at midnight on 17 February 2009, and closes as New Zealanders power down for Earth Hour, at 8.30pm on Saturday 28 March 2009.

The winners name will be announced live on TV3, following the weekend Earth Hour takes place.

WWF’s Dairne Poole, New Zealand’s Earth Hour Project Director says, “We are naturally thrilled to have the support of Toyota New Zealand, who donated such a generous prize. They have been behind the campaign and supported us from the beginning.”

"All New Zealanders need to reduce their carbon emissions, and reducing car journeys is an important way to do that. But if you do need to drive, then driving a hybrid is a good way to reduce your impact," says Ms Poole.

“We hope this fabulous prize will encourage many New Zealanders to become involved in the Earth Hour campaign through our online portal, and result in an active online community of some size”, she says.

Among the conditions of the draw, only New Zealand residents who are old enough to drive may enter. For more details, go to: nz.earthhour.org/prius

With 36 days to go before people around the world switch off for Earth Hour, WWF reports that over 500 towns and cities around the world are now committed to Earth Hour.

The conservation organisation hopes Earth Hour will reach 1 billion people in 1000 cities making this the greatest mass participation environmental event the world has ever witnessed.

WWF’s national sponsors for Earth Hour 2009 in New Zealand are:
TV3, More FM, Trade Me and Toyota Prius.
