Humanitarian Disaster in Sri Lanka

For Immediate Release
Humanitarian Disaster in Sri Lanka

Immediate Ceasefire has to be implemented to stop the Tamil Genocide!
Media restriction in Sri Lanka has to be removed!

Tamil Youth Organisation (New Zealand) is organising a vigil on Aotea Square Queen Street, Auckland CBD today (Thursday 23rd April 2009) from 5:00pm till 7:00pm, to demand the Sri Lankan Government to stop the violence against Tamil people now and to bring an immediate unconditional ceasefire.

Sri Lankan army has entered the so called “Safety Zone” and now directing fire to the densely populated Tamil innocent people including, children, women, and elderly. The Tamil people who have left the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam controlled area have been treated with no dignity and kept in so called “Welfare camps” by the Sri Lankan Government Forces. People trapped in these “welfare camps” are not allowed to move out or meet their family and friends. These camps do not allow the media or NGO’s to enter. The people that are able to talk to the media are guarded by the Sri Lankan Government forces to ensure that these people only tell what the Sri Lankan Government want people around the world to hear.

It is time the New Zealanders and the New Zealand media think why these restrictions are placed by the Sri Lankan Government on media and NGO’s. Only information that is coming out of Sri Lanka is the fabricated information from the Sri Lankan Government and their military forces, which is grossly misleading.
