Intrepid Travel offers chance to train with Al Gore

Monday, 27 April: As proud supporters of The Climate Project - Australia (TCP), Intrepid Travel is offering four environmentally-passionate people the opportunity to train with The Hon Al Gore at the Asia-Pacific Summit to be held in Melbourne from 11 to 13 July.

The Climate Project – Australia is Al Gore’s climate change leadership program in partnership with the Australian Conservation Foundation.

Successful applicants will be among 250 people from Australasia and the Asia- Pacific to undergo training from Al Gore and a panel of international experts on the relevant climate science and solutions needed to help avoid dangerous climate change. Applicants will also be trained in the skills to inspire change in their networks and communities in this crucial year for climate change.

Successful applicants will be trained to deliver a version of the slide show seen in An Inconvenient Truth in conjunction with the Australian Conservation Foundation.

Through its support of the Asia-Pacific Training, Intrepid Travel hopes to encourage travellers and travel industry representatives alike to be part of the debate in this crucial year, culminating with the United Nations Climate Conference in Copenhagen in December. The successor to the Kyoto Protocol, arising from the December meetings, will come into effect in 2012.

Since announcing its intention to become a carbon neutral company in 2006, Intrepid Travel has become a travel industry leader in seeking-out practical solutions to the issue of climate change. Over the past four years, it has reduced the emissions generated by its offices and introduced Carbon Offset Flights and Carbon Offset Trips.

Training will take place in Melbourne on 11, 12 and 13 July. In addition to funding successful applicants' places at the Summit, successful applicants may apply for a travel scholarship from Intrepid Travel.

Successful applicants must commit to delivering at least 10 presentations to their social and professional networks, within a year of being trained. Approximately 1 in 72 Australians has seen a TCP presentation.

"This is a unique opportunity for our travellers to become actively involved in helping to solve the climate crisis. We're passionate about helping find practical solutions for reducing Intrepid Travel's impacts. We're excited to be offering people the opportunity to inspire others to do the same," said Intrepid Travel CEO and Co-founder, Darrell Wade.

“If you ever wanted to make a difference on this issue, you’re living at the right time,” said Don Henry, Executive Director, Australian Conservation Foundation.
