Meetings in Wellington and Auckland with scientist and Canadian whistleblower

GE Free NZ in Food and Environment,  the Safe Food Campaign, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Charitable Trust and Global Peace and Justice Auckland are happy to announce that they have been able to attract renowned scientist and author Dr Shiv Chopra to New Zealand at the beginning of his Australasian tour.

During the past ten years, Dr. Shiv Chopra has become a household name in Canada for his attempts to uphold the policies of the Food and Drug Act and its regulations. Dr Chopra worked for Health Canada for 35 years approving food and drugs before their release onto the market.  However he lost his job when he and his colleagues refused to approve drugs of questionable safety intended for food production.

Due to Dr. Chopra's work, Bovine Growth Hormone was barred in Canada in 1999, in the EU and subsequently in New Zealand.

During his tour he will speak on the questionable safety of hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified organisms (GMO's) and pesticides in our food chain.

He is the author of numerous publications on science, society and religion.

His current publication called   "CORRUPT TO THE CORE: Memoirs of a Health Canada Whistleblower” is presently a top selling book throughout the world.  His book paints a disturbing picture of the internal strategies of a government regulator bent on pleasing its chemical company ‘clients’, often with scant concern for the public health implications.

His academic qualifications include graduation in Veterinary Medicine and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Microbiology. He is the recipient of numerous academic awards, including a Fellowship of the World Health Organisation.

He is speaking at two events in Wellington on Friday 5th June: an afternoon seminar at the Wellington School of Medicine at 12.30pm,  and Sue Kedgely will introduce him at the evening talk at Wellington Library at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to both seminars. A koha is appreciated.

He will also be speaking in Auckland at Traders Hall in Grey Lynn on Monday  8th June at 7.30pm.  He will be in New Zealand until 14 June.
