Legal Action Over Pacific Visa Claims
Ngapuhi Leader Threatens Legal Action Over Pacific Visa Claims
Ngapuhi academic David Rankin has lashed out at Gerard Omiti – the man who is at the centre of the fake visa controversy. Following a Police investigation and the execution of a search warrant yesterday at Omiti’s home, Omiti claimed that he was a deputy leader of the Hapu Party.
Mr. Rankin, the leader of the Hapu Party, and
candidate in the 2008 General Eleection, says that Omiti has
never been a member of the party, and the two have never
even met.
“If Mr. Omiti is finding himself in some
difficulty withthe Police, then that’s his problem”,
says Mr. Rankin, “But if he starts to try to drag down
others with him, then he better watch out. By making false
statements about his alleged involvement in the Hapu Party,
Omiti runs the risk of facing legal action. The Party’s
solicitor has already proposed a number of responses and we
are working through those now”.
Mr Rankin has some
advice for Omiti: “Leave our Pacific brother and sisters
alone, get a proper job and earn an honest pay. Maoridom
has no need for such imposters They devalue their own
culture by their
actions”.
