What is New Zealand coming to?

·       There are calls to consider putting the retirement age up to 67 years which will not only succeed in people not leaving work as early, but will block younger ones coming in at the bottom, and we have thousands of young out of work now.

Have they not considered that paying business’s to employ young people will only enable them to be able to put off older people who receive a higher wage, I do know for a fact that this happened quite often during a previous recession.  We pray that the millions of $ being spent getting 16 to 18 year olds into work is stipulated for creation of new jobs, not for jobs that were already there.

·       Then the announcement comes that they are considering increasing GST to 15 percent; once again this will obviously affect those on low fixed incomes the most.  Some of us can’t afford to buy our usual groceries now, and those with rent or mortgage to pay will be on the scrap heap.

They gave those money grabbing Power Companies, who stole $4.3 billion from New Zealanders’  “a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket”, as our Grey Power President puts it, so no help from Government with those overcharged energy accounts either.

All this combined with considering removing Tertiary Education, and cutting out the Night Classes that help many older people keep up with the masses of changes in their lifetime in all fields of endeavour, is really stabbing those of us on a fixed income in the back.

Money works upwards as well as down; those of us with little have to spend it all.

Come on National Government, think of the folk at the bottom, not just those at the top!
